The Story Behind Margaret Maldonado
She wasn’t always the mastermind behind LA-based clothing line L’Agence. Margaret Maldonado, stylist extraordinaire, first made her mark on the fashion map with the launch of her ultra-successful fashion and beauty agency, MMA. Here’s a look at how it all began:
Margaret Maldonado launched her eponymous creative agency, The Margaret Maldonado Agency, in 1999 to represent hair and makeup artists, photographers, and most notably, stylists. Repping 20 artists in its first year, today MMA boasts a roster of over 60 of the country’s fashion and beauty artistry elite.
In 2008, after years of brokering successful deals with her artists, Margaret launched her own clothing line, L’AGENCE (“The Agency” in French). Despite no formal training, the transition came naturally to Margaret. Her concept was simple: washed silks and Japanese and Italian fabrics. She wanted to pair the finest fabrications with modern, yet classic silhouettes to create affordable luxury. Accessories followed in 2011 and this spring debuts LA’t by L’AGENCE, an expanded collection of the luxurious basics from which the brand began.
