How did you get started in the industry?
I started young, working as a stock girl in a children’s clothing store after school. I begged them to give me a job at the age of 13 and fortunately they agreed.
You were a stylist and now you’re running your own fashion company. How did that happen?
It was a very organic transition. As a stylist, I feel I developed an understanding of what women are looking for and what makes them feel confident and glamorous. You learn to appreciate the nexus between individual body types and different styles. You also notice what pieces are missing on the market. For me starting A.L.C. felt very right.
Describe your design process.
I like to begin by thinking of my ‘it girl’ and from there conceptualize what wardrobe needs she’ll have for the season. While my vision of the girl varies from season to season, the A.L.C. woman is always effortlessly chic, yet is not afraid to push the envelope.
What should every woman own?
Definitely, a leather jacket – nothing matches the versatility!
What’s your must-have piece this season?
Either the Syd jacket or the maxi pleated skirt. The Syd jacket is the quintessential example of classic meets edgy. And the maxi pleated skirt perfectly depicts a feminine and fresh look. Dress it up or down, it’s the perfect transition piece.
What’s special about this top?
It’s simple and chic. Pair it with skinny leather motorcycle pants or layer under a fitted blazer and maxi skirt.
Your best fashion advice?
Seek out an experienced tailor. It seems basic but a perfect fit should never be underestimated.
What was the last thing you Googled?
Handcuffs (inspiration for my new jewelry collection).
And… what’s the last movie you went to?
Kung Fu Panda 2 with the kiddies!
